Multi-Test

Your doctor has ordered an allergy “multi-test”. This will explain the procedure for you.

Plastic devices, with very small fork-like projections are dipped into possibly allergic concentrated substances. These devices are then gently pressed onto the inner aspect of your forearms with a back and forth motion. We allow 20 minutes to pass, then cleanse the areas and record the results.

There is very little discomfort involved with this procedure; many patients have described it as feeling like a wire brush being pressed on your skin. Depending on your individual responses, you may experience redness, bumps, and itching. Benadryl® cream is applied when the test is completed, which quickly alleviates any itching or irritation you may have. All of this usually subsides within 1-2 hours.

You must avoid certain medications three (3) days prior to testing. Other medications require a week of abstinence. Please refer very carefully to the attached list. Some medications are not compatible with allergy testing and can, in fact, be dangerous. Be aware that the list of medications that require abstinence or complete avoidance are constantly being added to, so if your medicine is not on this list and you have any questions or doubts, feel free to call the office for clarification. Thank you for your cooperation.
