VNG Examination Instructions
You are scheduled to have a VNG (Videonystagmography) test. This is a simple, painless procedure to evaluate your balance system. It will require approximately 1-1/2 hours to perform.
In order to complete the test and obtain accurate results, it is important that you read and follow the instructions below.
- DO NOT take any of the following medications or beverages for 3 days (72 Hrs.) prior to your examination, unless medically indicated:
- Alcoholic beverages
- Anti-dizzyiness pills (Antivert/meclizine)
- Sleeping Pills
- Tranquilizers (Valium)
- Sedatives
- Muscle relaxants
- Antihistamines
- Barbiturates
(See attached list of medications; if you have been taking a medication for more than 6 months, check with your physician.)
- No eating for four (4) hours before the test.
- No coffee or other liquids four (4) hours before the test.
- No smoking for four (4) hours before the test.
- No make-up; especially in eye area.
Please dress comfortably. Women may want to wear slacks.
